Crepe Maker
An Overview of the Crepe Maker
What is a crepe maker? A crepe maker, also known as a creperie machine, can be used to make crepes. It can be electronic or manual. It is generally a long, thin metal rod with many small circles used to make crepes.
A crepe maker is used to take the batter and pour it into a crepe, which is a type of pastry case where the filling is made. The crepe will be cooked in the crepe maker by the heating element of the machine.
This type of cooking is called crepe baking. In this process, oil is used to cook the food. Different types of crepe machines are available, so you should look for the best one to make your crepes.
There are many types of crepe machines, some of which need to be operated manually, while others are automated. They come in many different sizes and prices.
You can buy one online or in appliance stores. You can also find second-hand ones for sale. If you buy a new one, you can expect it to work better than a used one.
But since they are used, they may not always function properly. It will really depend on the person using the crepe maker and how they use it.

Considerations when choosing a crepe maker
- Types of Crepe Makers
Home crepe makers come in two main types: stovetop and electric.
- Stovetop Crepe Maker
Stovetop crepe makers are the traditional tool for making crepes and are essentially a frying pan specifically designed for making the classic French recipe. Their size and material can vary, but they are generally easier to clean than an electric crepe maker.
A stovetop crepe maker also allows crepes to brown, giving them crispy edges. A stovetop crepe maker is extremely versatile. You can also use it to make pancakes, eggs, grilled sandwiches, and a variety of other dishes that require a frying pan.
- Electric Crepe Maker
Electric crepe makers are tabletop appliances specifically designed for making crepes. They are a great option for beginners because they take much of the guesswork out of crepe preparation. An electric crepe maker allows you to make crepes quickly.
So, if you regularly cook for large groups, it is a practical choice. While some electric crepe makers are only suitable for cooking crepes, other models can be used for additional dishes.
Such as pancakes and eggs. However, cleaning can be difficult with an electric crepe maker since most cannot be immersed in water. It is also not as effective for making crispy crepes.
In addition to these two main types of crepe makers, there is another type that is not very well known.
- Party Crepe Maker
A vintage-style electric flat plate designed for easily and simply cooking crepes, pancakes, tortillas, or pita. Easy to use, compact shape, exclusive design. Pour the batter, cook, dress, and a delicious snack is immediately ready.
- Key Features to Consider When Choosing a Crepe Maker
- Size
Crepe makers typically measure around 300 cm in diameter. However, you can find models as small as mini crepes and as large as 19 cm in diameter if you prefer bigger crepes. If you buy an electric crepe maker, keep in mind that you will need counter space to accommodate the appliance size you choose.
- Material
The cooking surface of a crepe maker can make a big difference in the finished crepes. Stovetop crepe makers are usually made of cast iron, stainless steel, or Teflon. Cast iron is the traditional option because it has a high weight and is extremely durable.
Stainless steel and Teflon are lightweight for easier handling. Electric crepe makers typically have a stainless steel cooking surface, although some high-end models offer a cast iron griddle.
- Temperature Range
Most electric crepe makers allow you to adjust the temperature to cook crepes to your desired results. Some models have only a few temperature settings such as low, medium, and high. Others allow you to select a specific temperature.
If precise control of your cooking temperature is important, opt for a crepe maker that lets you set an exact temperature rather than a temperature range.
- Price
Stovetop crepe makers vary in price depending on their size and material. Electric crepe makers are generally more expensive, and their prices vary depending on size and temperature range.
How to Use an Electric Crepe Maker?
There’s no better way to start your day than with light and fluffy crepes. Crepes are lighter than pancakes and thin as paper, but can be filled with any variety of toppings, from cream cheese to strawberry jam to chicken and peppers. An electric crepe maker simplifies the process of making crepes and gives you perfectly cooked, perfectly shaped crepes every time.
Clean the cold surface of your electric crepe maker with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove any dust buildup. Spray or wipe butter onto the non-stick coating.
Plug the crepe maker into a nearby wall outlet, close to the area where you’ll be working. Place the machine aside while it preheats for a few minutes or until the ready light comes on.
Mix your crepe batter in a large mixing bowl until it is fully combined and smooth. Pour some of the batter into a pie pan or something similar. Fill it about an inch.
Hold the handle of the crepe maker and dip the hot pan surface into the batter in the pie pan. Quickly flip the pan. The surface should now be lightly coated with batter and cooking. After a few seconds, you’ll see a firm, golden crepe. Some machines will have a ready light to indicate when it’s done.
Flip the crepe maker onto a plate or serving dish. The finished crepe will now drop onto the dish or plate. If the crepe does not fall, gently use a butter knife to help it detach. Avoid scraping, as this may tear the crepe or damage the cooking surface. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all the batter is used.
How to Clean Your Crepe Maker
We do not recommend putting your crepe maker in the dishwasher as it has been seasoned, and this can remove the seasoning effects. For the most part, the pan can simply be wiped down with a dry paper towel or cloth. You’ll find that this pan is very easy to clean and maintain.
If your pan is dirtier and requires more than just a wipe-down, you should wash the pan. You can rinse the pan with water and scrub with soap until you feel that any remaining food particles or general stickiness have been removed.
In the case of more intense washing and longer exposure to water, it may be necessary to apply a very light coat of oil to the pan to maintain the seasoned and non-stick surface. Also note that the crepe maker is prone to rust if left wet for an extended period, so it is important to thoroughly dry it.
Another important tip: while the spatula is great for flipping crepes and many other tasks, it is not the best tool for scraping food stuck to the pan as it can scratch the surface.
The pan will still work properly with scratches, but to avoid this, we recommend using a plastic spatula or a crumpled ball of aluminum foil to remove stuck-on substances from the pan if water and scrubbing don’t do the job.
Once your pan has been cleaned, you can store it. It will easily slide into your cookie sheet cabinet or many other drawers. Often, we simply leave our crepe maker on the stove, ready for whatever we have planned next!
Additional Information
You’ll notice, especially if you use your crepe maker in the oven, that the surface darkens with use and exposure to heat. This is perfectly normal and will actually improve the non-stick surface of the pan and its ability to cook crepes.
Be careful! The crepe maker is entirely made of metal and will become very hot during use. This includes the handle! For best practice, keep the handle away from your body while cooking with the pan.
And transport it using an oven mitt or towel to protect your hands. If you burn your hand or any other part of your body, make sure to place the burned area immediately under cool running water.
Thank you very much for purchasing your crepe maker! We know it will be an amazing addition to your kitchen!
